Hi Yvonne, thanks for your blog, it’s very informative especially for a newbie cook like me. I need some advice from a seasoned cook like yourself. I haven’t been cooking much before ( just eat out and microwave instant foods a lot) but have collected a few pots and pans in my kitchen over the years. Now that I just given birth to my second kid ( family of 4) and look forward to learning to cook healthily, esp to feed a 3 year old fussy eater. I’m thinking to overhaul my cooking pots and pans. Would you recommend I throw everything out and just purchase the happy call pot and the pans? Or I can try buying the pots first? Which one should I buy? The blue one? Red? Green? I’m also looking at the double frying pans (ocher or standard red one?) and of coz the 32 inch wok that you recommend on your page…?
Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for writing in. You don’t have to toss out your old cookware unless they’ve turned rusty, have deep scratches or some other defects. Depending on what cookware you’re having now, you can consider getting a few new pieces. Some basic equipment for cooking (especially Chinese food) include a wok, frying pan (both non-stick and stainless steel), saucepans, steamer and rice cooker.
For a family of four, I would suggest getting the green, blue and orange Happycall alumite ceramic pots. Sometimes, I use the blue pot to cook porridge for my 3 year old boy. I love using the orange pot for stews and light frying. The blue pot is great for soups and curries. If you wish to cook for more people, then the red pot is a good choice.
For the double frying pan, I prefer the red one as it is lighter and easier to turn. The 12″ wok pan is great for stir-fries and also general frying purposes. The latest range of frying pans right now from Happycall is the induction compatible series called IH Plasma. You can check it out here.
